Medicare cards dropping social security numbers

Connecticut Better Business Bureau says new Medicare cards to be issued in the spring will help protect an estimated 57 million seniors enrolled in the plan from identity theft.

In an effort to protect Medicare beneficiaries against the increasing prevalence of fraud and identify theft, CMS (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services) will issue a unique, randomly assigned Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI) to 57 million Medicare beneficiaries.

Medicare D: Open Enrollment Counseling

Trained volunteer counselors are available for individual counseling on original Medicare, Medicare D, Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) and other related health insurance options. Annual enrollment for Medicare D (Rx plans) is held between Oct. 15 and Dec. 7.
