Metro-North outage shows how it’s hurting state

First of all, despite what some commuters may recently be thinking, the folks who manage and operate Metro-North are not stupid. They’re inconsiderate and uncommunicative sometimes, but not stupid.

Public hearings or political theater?

I believe passionately in open, transparent government. The public has a right to know what their elected officials are doing and comment on it before it’s done, usually by way of mandated public hearings.

The shipping revolution

Each year, billions of dollars worth of goods arrive on our shores by sea. We’re talking oil, cars, electronics and food.

We shouldn’t lose 250 years of commuting experience

Experience counts. As I wrote recently, Metro-North and the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CDOT) are losing hundreds of experienced employees and managers.
