Himes’ Valentines for Vets returns

Valentine’s Day is an excellent chance to tell the people closest to you what they mean to you and it’s also a chance to show some support to the men and women who have put their lives on the line defending America.

U.S. Rep. Jim Himes (D-Fourth) has announced his fourth annual Valentines for Vets program, which collects valentines made by children in the district to deliver to local veterans. This year’s valentines will be taken to the local VA hospital, Homes for the Brave in Bridgeport, and other service organizations. Additionally,  Mr. Himes traditionally visits a participating school to make cards with students, and veterans accompany him to share stories about their service.

“I was inspired by the impact of last year’s program, and I hope to make this year’s drive even bigger,” Mr. Himes, a Cos Cob resident who was recently sworn in for his third term in Congress, said. “This is a great chance for kids to learn about the sacrifice our men and women in uniform make while showing our veterans they are always in our thoughts.”

Last year, more 60 schools participated by making valentines for distribution. Mr. Himes made cards with students at Kings Highway Elementary School in Westport.

Anyone who would like to participate in this year’s Valentines for Vets program should call Peter Yazbak in Mr. Himes’s Bridgeport office at 866-453-0028. Valentines may also be mailed to or dropped off at either of Mr. Himes’ district offices by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12.

The address for the Bridgeport office is 211 State Street, second floor, Bridgeport, CT 06604 and the address for the Stamford office is 888 Washington Boulevard, Floor 10, Stamford, CT 06901.
