Zoning commission throws Cos Cob under the bus

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor

We have been thrown under the bus again and with that statement I am referring to what is happening to Cos Cob in regards for plans for a synagogue on Orchard Street.

I am greatly concerned for the residents on Valleywood Road, Osee Place and property values. Opening Osee Place as a direct route to the “site” would be a disaster for the residents who for years have enjoyed the peace and quiet of a lovely neighborhood. As for Orchard Street, it is one of the main routes from the Post Road going through Cos Cob on up into the back country and is already a very busy street.

Having a synagogue with an entrance and exit on that street would only add to the traffic particularly on a Saturday. Every time I drive past the “site” I try to visualize it with a large building and more on the property along with parking spaces for 100 cars. I just cannot understand why the Planning and Zoning Commission would pass a huge complex like that in what is supposed to be a residential neighborhood.

What else are they planning for Cos Cob?

I went to the meeting at Town Hall last Tuesday the 29th and was shocked how quickly it ended. Let’s face it residents of Cos Cob, the commission members had it all wrapped up before we even got through the front door. To me and others, it’s all about money on both sides of the fence and nothing to do with the opinions and concerns of the residents who have had to put up with a lot of “changes” to the community over the years.

So I say we should secede from the Town of Greenwich as we have been its puppet for too long.
