Youth free-throw battle to be a ‘ball’

The Orinoco Council #39 of the Knights of Columbus will be hosting their annual Free Throw Championship Challenge in conjunction with the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich on Friday, Jan. 25 at the Boys & Girls Club gymnasium at 5:30 p.m.

The competition is open to boys and girls from ages 10 to 14-years-old, as determined by their birth date as of Jan. 1. Birth certificate or other proof of age may be required. There will be separate divisions for boys and girls and no charge for the competition.

Contestants will be allowed three warm up shots followed by 15 free throws. The contestant that scores the most free throws will be the winner. In the event of a tie, contestants will have a second round of five shots with no warm ups permitted. Successive rounds of five shots will continue until a winner is determined.

The winner will advance to the district level competition on a date and location to be determined. Should the winner not be able to compete, the second place winner will represent the Orinoco Council at the district competition.

For more information or to request an entry form call Don Palmer or Mike Gerald at 203-869-3224 at the Boys & Girls Club. Entry forms may also be obtained at the Knights of Columbus Council Hall at 37 West Putnam Avenue or from Knightsofgreenwich.com.
