Greenwich man killed in car accident

A Greenwich man was killed and two other men were injured when a car veered off I-95 and struck a bridge in Stamford early Monday, July 9.

Michael Vincente Chavez, 28, of North Street in Greenwich was pronounced dead at the scene, according to State Police.

A 2013 Honda Accord was headed north on I-95 shortly after 4 a.m. when the vehicle went onto the shoulder and into the grass before slamming into the concrete wall of the Wilson Street Bridge, north of Exit 6, then rolling onto its roof.

State Police said the driver, 35-year-old John Edwin Chavez of Mayflower Avenue in Stamford, and his front seat passenger, 31-year-old Max Dacillo of Williams Street in Stamford were both conscious and alert inside the vehicle, but responders at the scene suspected both suffered serious injuries. Both were taken to Stamford Hospital, according to State Police..

Michael Vincente Chavez was in the middle of the back seat, according to State Police, and unlike the other two occupants, was not wearing restraints.

Lanes on I-95 remained closed until around 10 a.m. as investigators reconstructed the crash. The investigation remains open, according to the police report.

The owner of the car was listed as unknown by State Police.
