Summer reading events for teens

This summer’s Young Adult Summer Reading Program, Build a Better World, runs through Friday, Aug. 11. Students in grades 6-12 can register beginning June 12 for the chance to win a Kindle eReader and other great prizes just by participating in events and reading! At the core of the Teen Summer Reading program this year is a new YA Book Group for grades 7-9.

Students can earn prizes and raffle entries by reading and by attending events like the Check it Out, Money Management Workshop for Young Adults on June 15 at 6 p.m. Teens will receive a $5 gift card for every 200 pages they read. After 800 pages they will receive an online ticket for the raffle for the grand prize drawing on August 9th. The three grand prizes are:

First Prize:   Kindle Reader

Second Prize:  $50 Amazon Gift Card

Third Prize:   $25 Diane’s Books Gift Card

Summer Reading Events and Programs

Young Adult Summer Reading Book Discussion Group, Wednesdays, July 5-Aug. 9, 4-5:30 p.m., Teen Central

Students in or entering grades 7-9 who have registered for this year’s Summer Reading program can join a casual YA Book Group to discuss and share the books they’re reading or plan to read this summer.

YA Book Group participants will receive raffle credits and will be eligible for the final raffle drawing on August 9. Group members can also receive raffle credits for submitting video book trailers for titles they’ve read that can be posted on the Library’s website.

The group also will wield the power to select the films for the Teen Summer Reading Movie events on July 12 and at the Aug. 9 Finale/Grand Prize Drawing. The films will be chosen based on the young adult books suggested and read by the group.

Teen Selected Film Screening, Wednesday, July 12, from 6:30-8:45 p.m., Meeting Room.

Summer Reading participants in grades 6-12 are invited to attend a special screening. Movie title TBD.

Grand Finale & Raffle with a Teen Selected Film Screening, Wednesday, Aug. 9, from 6:30-8:45 p.m., Meeting Room.
