Greenwich Choral Society names scholarship award recipients

Greenwich Choral Society recipients of the 2017 Natalie Rutherford Scholarship Award are Olivia Dallape, a student at Greenwich High School and Emily Fareed of Cortlandt Manor, a student at Hendrick Hudson High School.

Dallape is a soprano who has extensive choral and instrumental experience. She is a member of The Chamber Singers, Greenwich High School’s honors choir whose members are selected on the basis of their vocal excellence as well as their leadership within the All-State honors ensemble. In addition, Dallape is the Music Chair of Sasson, the elite choir of Temple Shalom for 12 to 17-year-olds. Sasson performs on Shabbat mornings, at festivals and on holidays at the Temple and throughout the region. She also is an accomplished instrumentalist. As the first chair clarinetist in Greenwich High School’s Select Wind Ensemble, she has performed in concerts in the community and, during the band’s visit to Cuba, alongside the National Band of Cuba. She is a member of TRI-M Music National Honors Society and is the recipient of numerous honors and awards. Dallape plans to study music at the University of Connecticut with an emphasis on voice and vocal performance.

Fareed is a soprano with an interest in music education and choral directing. She is a student at Hendrick Hudson High School in Cortlandt Manor, New York and sings with the Hendrick Hudson Treble Makers, a women’s choir, and the Hendrick Hudson Harmonizers, a mixed choir.  She has also sung with the Oratorio Society of New York. As a singer she has a classical repertoire that includes Handel, Bellini, Schubert, Straus, Mozart and Bruckner.  In addition, she composes and performs original songs. She will be attending the University of Delaware with a major in choral music education and has a keen interest in working with students to support their interest in music.

The Greenwich Choral Society sponsors the competition for the annual Nathalie Rutherford Scholarship Award of $1,000 each for up to two recipients. Any senior attending school in Fairfield or Westchester County who intends to pursue further study in vocal or choral music is encouraged to apply.
