Stamford EMS donates Thanksgiving turkeys to food bank

With two weeks to go before Thanksgiving, Stamford Emergency Medical Services (SEMS) delivered 50 turkeys to the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County last Thursday. The donation was a partnership between SEMS and the Stamford Paramedic Association.

“As a private nonprofit organization that’s been serving the community for nearly 25 years, we wanted to do our part to make sure that those who are less fortunate had food to eat this Thanksgiving,” said Patricia Squires, SEMS Executive Director.

The turkeys will be distributed to soup kitchens, emergency pantries and shelters across the region, including Inspirica, Person to Person, New Covenant House and Pacific House.

“On behalf of the men and women of the Stamford Paramedic Association, we’d like to wish a happy holiday to our neighbors in need.  We are always here for them and all our neighbors,” said Joe Scully, President of the Stamford Paramedic Association.  “We’d like to thank the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County for all of their hard work and effort throughout the year.”

“Obviously they see the worst, and I think this was a very happy call for them,” said Kate Lombardo, the food bank’s Executive Director.  “We’re delighted and grateful to both organizations for thinking of us.”

The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County is aiming for 15,000 turkeys this holiday season, and they are still in need of at least 5,000.  Those interested in donating should contact the food bank at (203) 358-8898.
