A Unique Escape

love-opera-victoria-bakerSometimes the most beautiful things, people and places are hidden but in plain sight. That’s how I came across one of the most beautiful places I have ever been…

I’ve been going to Charleston ever since some Greenwich friends invited me to stay with them and I fell completely and utterly in love with the place. It’s a mere two hour flight away from here but I immediately understood why so many Greenwich friends had chosen to make it a home away from home. And yet, for all the times I had been I never knew there was a haven of peace and tranquility, a tropical oasis of unspeakable beauty merely five minutes away from downtown.

The Cottages at Charleston Harbor are a short drive across the Ravenel Bridge, but they are worlds away from the city. Each of the ten Cottages has names like Sweet Blessing and Heaven…and that’s exactly what it feels like to be there. It’s an amazing place for families to reconnect. Each of the cottages has two-bedrooms, three bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen replete with refrigerator, range and dishwasher, private screened-in porch with hammock, rockers, tables, chairs and an unparalleled view of Charleston Harbor. There is room enough for everybody to have their own space and still be together: it’s ideal for a multi-generational family getaway which is why I so wanted to let all of you know about it! thecottagesoncharlestonharbor.com. If you enjoy spending time with friends and family, sitting on the porch and reading all day as you watch the boats sail through the harbor and if you enjoy going away without a schedule or agenda, this place won’t disappoint. And should you decide to be more active you are just minutes away from Charleston, and close to local beaches, museums, nightlife and restaurants.

I remember being struck by the natural beauty of the place when I first arrived… the Pelicans and egrets were flying in flocks close to my head, the air was warm and breezy, huge monarch butterflies skimmed the water, the air smelled vaguely like cotton candy, caramel and exotic flowers. The sunset? It was like God was a painter and he decided to paint the sky….just for me. The more places one travels, the more difficult it becomes to be amazed. So I’m very grateful I came across The Cottages on Charleston Harbor, they afforded me the chance to disconnect from the hullabaloo of my daily life and reconnect with nature and most importantly: with myself. If any of you are feeling burnt out by daily stress or a little lost, I can personally vouch that this unique place will quiet your mind, soothe your soul and boost your morale.
