Greenwich Library holds Family Memoir Series

Greenwich Library will present a Family Memoir Series beginning Saturday, Oct. 1, from 2-3:30 p.m. This program was developed in collaboration with the Oral History Project and Friends of the Cos Cob Library.

If you’ve often through about preserving your family history, but didn’t know how to begin, this program is the perfect starting point. Participating in these workshops is a great way to prepare for writing your memoirs.

On Saturday, Oct. 1, from 2-3:30 p.m., Regina Sanchez will talk about scrapbooking as a way to preserve family history at Greenwich Library as part of Greenwich Reads Together. The characters in Station Eleven, this year’s GRT selection are concerned with preserving their history and achieving “immortality through art”. Sanchez will explain how to capture, preserve and share images and ephemera for future generations. Sanchez will also review presentation options such as how to include photos in a scrapbook, slideshow or other digital file. Visit www.reginasanchez.com.

On Saturday, November 5 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon, Tony Lauriano will discuss Finding and Identifying Family in Photos at Cos Cob Library. Just about everyone has a box of family photos that are collecting dust in the attic. Photos are a snapshot in time of your family history. Tony will share his tricks of the trade to get the most out of your photographs.

On Saturday, December 17 at 2 p.m., Diana McCain and Carol Whitmer will talk at Cos Cob Library about how to talk to relatives about family history. Family members are a valuable source of information and can identify people and important events in the life of your ancestors.

The Library is planning additional Memoir Series workshops in the New Year. Topics will include photographing relatives, preserving materials and optimal ways to store memorabilia. Stay tuned!

This Local History program is made possible through the support of the Greenwich Library Board of Trustees and contributions by generous donors. The presentation is open to all at no charge and will be held in the Library Meeting Room. Register using the Library’s online calendar or contact Carl White, Local History Librarian at [email protected] or call (203) 622-7948.
