Connecticut Boys Nation Senator Aaron Jaffe elected American Legion Boys Nation Senate President Pro Tempore

Aaron Jaffe, a rising senior at Greenwich High School (GHS) was elected on the 6th ballot today to the position of Senate President Pro Tempore, beating out Senator Reuben Kamanga of Texas by a vote of 61-37. Fifteen senators initially ran for the position of President Pro Tempore. Until a vice president of Boys Nation is elected later in the week, the Jaffe will preside over all Boys Nation Senate sessions.

“It was an incredible honor to be elected, even more so considering I’ve lost seven straight elections throughout my career in Boys State and Boys Nation” said Jaffe. “I’m truly humbled by this opportunity and by the support that my fellow senators have given me throughout the election process. If this has taught me anything, it would be that regardless of the past and regardless of the odds against you, if you pour your heart and soul into something, one day it will pay off.”

Among his first acts as president pro tempore, Jaffe appointed a Chief Clerk of the Senate, a Senate Parliamentarian, a Senate Chaplain and a Sergeant- at-Arms of the Senate. As President Pro Tempore he now turns to familiarizing himself with the Standing Rules for Conducting Business in the Senate of Boys Nation.

Prior to being chosen for Boys Nation, from June 19-24, Jaffe served as a State Senator at Boys’ State where he was one of five boys representing Greenwich High School and one of approximately 210 students representing different schools from across the entire state of Connecticut.

Jaffe has served as member of the GHS Student Council, is a founding member of the GHS CyberPatriot Team and is current president of the GHS Model United Nations Club. He has been a Student Ambassador and Project Manager for the Digital Learning Environment (DLE) Governance Committee for the Town of Greenwich, where he conducts data analysis and works to optimize the school’s new Digital Learning initiative.

Jaffe has been an active Member of the Boy Scouts of America, was a Senior Patrol Leader, is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, and is working to complete his Eagle Scout rank.

As a student athlete, Jaffe currently rows for Greenwich Crew, where he has won gold medals at the Head of the Fish and Northeast Regionals in the 2V 4+ and 8+ respectively. Previously, he was co-Captain of the GHS Freshman Soccer Team and starting goalkeeper of the JV Soccer Team. Jaffe is a resident of Old Greenwich, and hopes to study a mixture of applied mathematics, physics, and computer science in college.
