Festival of lights

On Dec. 14, Congregation Shir Ami hosted more than 100 members of the congregation and the community for its tenth annual Chanukah Live! celebration. The celebration included a holiday concert with a band, an adult choir and a children’s choir, boisterous sing-alongs, a homemade potluck dinner, a beautiful menorah candle lighting ceremony and a Shabbat service. In the midst of horror and immense Newtown tragedy, or perhaps in spite of it, and after many moments of thoughts and prayer, many hugs to the many children who attended, the congregation and all guests in attendance insisted on finding gaiety and spirituality in life, in the holiday season, in singing and in our children. Above, Rabbi Vicki Axe lights the Chanukah candles with Young Israeli Emissaries who are visiting Greenwich this year, Ayelet Ofir and Itamar Wilf.
