A taste of outer space

In Miss Fallon’s core class at Eagle Hill School, understanding the phases of the moon became an exercise in restraint as students learned their lesson with Oreo cookies and tried not to gobble up the learning materials. They learned how to eat just enough of the “creamy middle” to show the waning crescent. So what happens if you were charged with capturing the full moon (no icing removed)? And who was the lucky one who had the new moon (all cookie, no icing)? As with all learning at Eagle Hill, as many of the senses as possible were incorporated into this educational lesson. In this case, Miss Fallon made things more interesting by adding taste to sight, and perhaps sound, as the Oreos were eaten. It was no surprise that the students were able to identify each phase and explain how it reached that position. Above, seated from left, are Alex Carlin and Zach Brois.
