Brunswick wrestling beats Trinity Pawling, Salisbury to move to 10-2 on season

In a home tri-meet, Brunswick School wrestling team edged out one its wrestling rivals in Trinity-Pawling, and also beat Salisbury to move the Bruin’s dual meet record to 10-2 on the season.

The Trinity-Pawling match came down to an exciting final bout in the 132-pound weight class, featuring junior tri-captain Jimmy Bell. Bell and his opponent came out firing and had back-and-forth moments before Bell was able to pin his opponent and seal the 35-27 victory for Brunswick.

Both teams won seven matches, but the difference came down to pinfall victories. Brunswick, who leads all New England prep schools with 75 varsity pins on the season, pinned four Trinity-Pawling wrestlers while not surrendering a single pin. In addition, Brunswick junior Rohan Das, who wrestled in the 113-pound weight class, worked hard to earn a 16-0 technical fall to add five team points.

In the dual meet against Salisbury, the Bruins forfeited two weight classes but came away with the 59-24 win. Bell and fellow juniors Evan Jonokuchi and Gregg Nabhan joined senior Johnny Erdman in going 2-0 on the day.

Brunswick will be back in action Saturday against Taft and the Bruins hope to have its full lineup on display for the first time this season.
