Greenwich High wrestling team beats Stamford, 54-29

The Greenwich High School wrestling team continued its winning ways yesterday by beating Stamford High School, 54-29.

Big Red finished the dual meet with six pins on the day en route to the victory.

After the Black Knights took an early lead via two pinfall victories courtesy of Carlos Romano (138) and Christian Llanos (145), Greenwich stormed back. Eric Tack got the Card going at 152, pinning Hubert Buissereth at the 3:59 mark of his match.

After Mitchell Nethercott won in the 160-pound weight class via forfeit, the GHS duo of Mike Gestal and Justin Montier took over. At 170, Gestal finished off Scott Polonia and picked up the pinfall at the 3:51 mark, while Montier had an easier time at 182, pinning Jonathan Spanakos 1:38 into his match.

Grant Cucchissi kept the good times rolling at 195, picking up the forfeit victory and Thomas Williams scored a pinfall victory at 220, taking only 24 seconds to secure the win.

Greenwich’s lightweight, Mark Chien took care of Stamford’s Nick Cammorata, netting the pinfall win at the 1:12 mark. At the 120-pound weight class, Jack Benenson pinned Steve Reynolds with only four seconds to play in the first period.

Ethan Ross rounded out the scoring for Big Red at 126, grabbing the forfeit win.

With the victory, Greenwich upped its overall record to 5-3 and will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to New Rochelle and compete in the Ted Murphy Shoreline Tournament.
