Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bill McKersie has announced the appointment of Karen M. Vitti as special education program coordinator — liaison to elementary schools, effective July 1. Vitti currently is a special education instructional coach with the Greenwich Public Schools. She has been with the District for 10 years serving in teacher, coach and administrator roles supporting students with special needs.

Director of Pupil Personnel Services Mary Forde said, “Karen’s experiences in Greenwich as teacher, coach, and building administrator will give her multiple perspectives in addressing the complex problems our schools regularly face. Her knowledge and skill at building relationships will expand her support to schools and school administrators. She is our ‘go to’ person on many of the technical supports used in the special education program including IEP Direct. We are thrilled to welcome her to her new position.”

Administrative candidates are selected after a comprehensive search and appointment process, which includes widespread recruitment efforts, multiple interviews, and extensive reference and background checks.
