New officer sworn in

Police welcomed a new officer on Jan. 2 when Alberto E. Escoffery was sworn in as an official member of the Greenwich Police Department.

Mr. Escoffery was sworn in with a short ceremony in First Selectman Peter Tesei’s office at Town Hall, which his friends and family were invited to attend. Mr. Escoffery will now be required to complete an 18-month probationary period, commencing Jan. 2.

Mr. Escoffery resides in Stamford. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Mass., with a bachelor of arts degree with a major in legal studies and minors in psychology, sociology, criminology and hotel and restaurant management.

Prior to becoming a police officer Mr. Escoffery was a firearms instructor, providing instruction to individuals in the care and proper use of firearms. He has also worked as a manager and assistant manager in several local restaurants.
