Brunswick upends top ranked Belmont Hill, falls to Millbrook in hockey tourney

The Brunswick School ice hockey finished today’s round of games in the Nichols/Belmont Hill Tournament in fine shape.

Although the Bruins lost to Millbrook School 5-1 to start the day, Brunswick’s 4-0 victory over No. 1 ranked Belmont Hill assured the team of an appearance in tomorrow’s semifinal round of the tourney.

The day didn’t start stellar for Brunswick in the tournament, which is held in Buffalo, N.Y., falling to Millbrook School 5-1. Brunswick took a 1-0 lead into the second period, as Stephen Seeger took the puck from Nick Jermain and Liam Ferguson and fired a shot in the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.

From there it was all Millbrook, as they score three times in the second frame and twice more in the third.

Brunswick goalie Gryphon Richardson finished with 25 saves and Brunswick finished with 32 shots on net.

Although the Bruins were disappointed with the morning performance, they didn’t let it get to them and dominated previously undefeated and top ranked in New England Belmont Hill, winning 4-0.

All the scoring took place in the third period, as the Bruins scored three of the team’s four goals on the power play.

With 1:20 gone by in the period, Harry Clifford scored the team’s lone even-strength goal. Ferguson and Andre Massi netted assists on the goal.

Almost five minutes later, Brunswick was on the attack and found the back of the net when Michael Faulkner got the puck from Jermain and Seeger and scored on the power play.

Five minutes after the second goal, Peter Khoury got the team’s third, as he took the pass from Jermain and scored at the 11:41 mark of the period.

With time running down in the game, Brunswick iced the contest when Faulkner took the puck up ice and dished off to Jermain for the empty net goal and 4-0 lead.

Richardson picked up his second shutout of the tournament and third overall, stopping all 30 shots he saw. Brunswick finished with 25 shots on the day.
