Clifford B. Storms appointed to board of Friends of Nathaniel Witherell

David Ormsby, chairman of the Friends of Nathaniel Witherell, Inc., announced that Greenwich resident Clifford B. Storms has been appointed to the Board of Directors. The Friends support vital programs and services at The Nathaniel Witherell, the highly regarded, short-term rehabilitation and long-term skilled nursing care center owned by the Town of Greenwich.

Storms served as vice president, senior vice president, and general counsel at Corn Products Company (later known as CPC International and, subsequently, Bestfoods), a major international food and corn refining company, until he retired in 1997. He was previously an associate with Breed, Abbott & Morgan in Manhattan, specializing in litigation and antitrust law.

Storms was president of the Association of General Counsel and Trustee of the Food and Drug Law Institute.  He was also a member of the advisory committee of the Parker School of Foreign and Comparative Law at Columbia University, and a member of the American, New York State, and New York City Bar associations.

Following his retirement, Storms maintained an active practice as an arbitrator in the Large Complex Case Program of the American Arbitration Association and the Alternate Dispute Resolution Program of the Center for Public Resources. He also was a director of the Transportation Association of Greenwich, vice chairman of the Coastal Resources Advisory Committee of Greenwich, a driver for Meals on Wheels, and a senior warden and vestry member of St. Barnabas Church.

Storms graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Amherst College.  He received his law degree from Yale Law School and was a member of the executive committee of the Yale Law School Association. A lifelong sailor, Storms has been a resident of Greenwich since 1975.

About Nathaniel Witherell

Nathaniel Witherell is a short-term rehab and skilled nursing center located on 24 beautiful acres just two miles from downtown Greenwich. Witherell is committed to person-centered care provided by a compassionate and experienced staff. Rehab is available seven days a week. The nonprofit is owned and operated by the Town of Greenwich and has been serving the community for over 113 years.

Witherell reflects the community’s collective commitment to provide for the town’s elderly when home care is no longer an option. The vast majority of residents have lived their entire lives in Greenwich and supported the community in which we live. Nathaniel Witherell was recently recognized as “one of the best nursing homes in Connecticut” by U.S. News & World Report. For each year since the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services adopted its rating system in 2008, Witherell has enjoyed the Center’s coveted 5-star rating, a distinction granted to only 19% of the nursing homes in the United States.
