Sound Beach Fire Department Memorial Day parade

A ceremony to mark Memorial Day will be sponsored by the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department immediately following the Memorial Day parade, which begins at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 30. The parade, which proceeds down Sound Beach Avenue from Keoffram Road to Forest Avenue, has been sponsored by the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department for more than 65 years. Starting at 9:30 a.m. Sound Beach Avenue will be closed to traffic.

The Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department, located at 207 Sound Beach Avenue in Old Greenwich, is celebrating its 112th anniversary this year. District Chief Scott Hawkins and more than 35 active volunteers provide fire protection, suppression, and technical rescue services to the residents and merchants of Old Greenwich, Riverside, and North Mianus in addition to sponsoring the Memorial Day Parade and other civic functions. In addition to responding to emergencies, the volunteers participate in intensive training on an ongoing basis.

The Memorial Day Parade, sponsored by the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department for more than 65 years, is the only parade in Greenwich to take place on the holiday itself.

There will be a BBQ at the firehouse following the parade.
