Traffic restricted Sundays return to Greenwich Point

As life continues to return to normal following the damage of Hurricane Sandy, the town’s ban on bicycling, rollerblading and other similar activities has been lifted.

People can return to Greenwich Point from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. as the ban was officially lifted on Dec. 9. However, areas of the point remain fenced off for public safety and members of the public are being asked to not access these areas. Periodic road closures will still take place due to ongoing storm cleanup, so users of Greenwich Point are being told to be mindful of large vehicles operating within the boundaries of the park.

Additionally, the Friends of Greenwich Point, in cooperation with the town’s Parks and Recreation Department, will sponsor the Safe Routes Program there through April 7, 2013. Through this program, traffic will be restricted beyond the main parking area on Sunday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon to allow for safe bicycling, walking, running, rollerblading and other activities.
