Brunswick basketball upends Andover, Deerfield in Exeter tourney

Despite being heavy underdogs in their battle with Andover in the championship game of the Exeter Holiday Tournament, the Brunswick School basketball team used stifling defense to come away with the 52-49 victory earlier today.

Throughout the contest, the Bruins finished with 17 steals and Andover didn’t get too many good looks at the basket.

Henry Taylor highlighted the victory for Brunswick, finishing with 20 points, four steals and drained two clutch free throws as time was expiring to seal the victory.

Dylan Wadsworth finished with a team-high 12 rebounds and added nine points, five assists and four steals. Billy O’Malley also pitched in with nine points and four steals.

The Bruins started the tournament with a hard-fought 55-53 victory over Deerfield. James Robinson had a breakout game for Brunswick, netting a team-high 11 points and adding three assists. Wadsworth added nine points, six rebounds and four steals, while Taylor finished with seven points, five rebounds and five assists.

Ryan Hardin netted five rebounds and six assists, while Sam Fraser rounded out the scoring by contributing seven points and three steals.

Brunswick’s lone loss in the tournament was against Taft School, as the Bruins fell 67-58. In the losing effort, Taylor paced the team with 17 points and three assists, while Teddy Murphy added 10 points and three rebounds. Kink Kono pitched in with eight points and five assists, while O’Malley rounded out the high scorers with seven points.

The Bruins will return to action Tuesday when they square off against Masters School.
