Brunswick wrestlers pick up key win against Choate, 42-38

The Brunswick School wrestling team improved its overall record to 5-1 with a hard-fought 42-38 win at Choate Rosemary Hall.

Last year Choate finished the season with a 17-1 record, with the only loss being a close one to Brunswick. Choate lost some key wrestlers to graduation, but reloaded with several strong new wrestlers including a New England finalist transfer at heavyweight.

The match earlier today came down to the last match. Senior Johnny Erdman, who has been in the program for four years, earned the crucial pin to seal the match for his team.

Junior Evan Jonokuchi picked up another win in the 145-pound weight class, while fellow junior, tri-captain Jimmy Bell, earned his seventh win of the year with another pin at 138. Junior Dan Hughes also notched another impressive win in the 220-pound weight class. Sophomore Matt Marvin also stayed on his hot streak, netting a second period pin.
