Old Greenwich Sidewalk Art Show winners honored

Artists of all ages were recently recognized in the Art Society of Old Greenwich’s 61st Annual Sidewalk Art Show and the Children’s Sidewalk Art Show, which took place along Sound Beach Avenue.

First, second and third place awards and honorable mentions were given to adult artists, avocational and professional, for artworks in watercolor, oil, acrylic, photography, drawing/graphics, pastel, sculpture and other media. The artworks were judged by painter/teacher Rick Daskam.

A large portion of the Sidewalk Art Show is the children’s show, where many young artists received awards for painting, drawing, collage, photography and sculpture. Awarded artists received cash prizes and gift certificates.

In the oil category, Zufar Bikbov won first prize, Concetta Volpe got second as third went to Barbara Stretton. Franz Petion, Beatrice Goldsmith, John Conroy and Mayumi Takaji all won honorable mention. For watercolors, Eleanor Eaton was the first prize winnner as Dan Grimsich won second and Howard Aaron third. The honorable mention winner was Norma Stanton.

For color photgraphy, Christopher Wisker was the winner of first prize as Susan Galbraith and Caroline Temlock Teichman took home second and third. Bob Weinberg, Richard Tedeschi and Lisa Norrgard all won honorable mention citations. In black and white photography, Catherine Stahl won first prize, Susan Galbraith second, Britta Calkosz third and Aga Cichy honorable mention.

In the category for acrylics, it was Ron Klingner in first, Bill Grant in second and Catherine Stahl in third. Tom Devlin, Karen Gorman, Jill Ailleo and Ximena Astorga were all given honorable menton honors. For drawing and graphics, first prize was awarded to Cynthia Streit Mazzaferro. Janet Patterson won second place and Emmy Stocker third. Helen McStravik received an honorable mention. Then in other media, Carol Nipomnich Dixon was the first place winner as Cynthia Streit Mazzaferro took home second and Susan McHale third. The honorable mentions were given to Carolyn Lyngholm and Miriam Schulman.

The pastel winners were first place winner Dubby Bogdan, second place winner John Conroy and third place winner Cynthia Streit Mazzaferro. Modesta Murphy won the honorable mention. In sculpture, Debora Solomon won first honors and Myra Lehman second.

Then in the Children’s Sidewalk Art Show, for the five-years-old and under category Elena Schmedlen won first for Ocean Deep, Matty Goldman won second for Jackson Pollack Medium 1 and Will Conte third for mixed media. In the six to seven-years-old category, Anne Roth won first for N. N., Mary Grace Lynch got second for Butterfly and Audrey Schedler won third for Sea Beauty. In the eight to nine-years-old category, Bennett Masterson won first for Chinese Vase, Natalia di Gortari got second for Tiger and Sophie Priatka third for N. N.

The winners of the 10 to 11-years-old category were Alessia Martinoli for Night Dream in first, Spencer Plouvakis for Fruit in second and Matthias Carballo’s Space 1 in third. The 12 to 14-years-old category had Kelly McLaughlin winning first prize for Birch Trees, Joe Bentham second for Old Lady Downtown and Lily McCarthy third for Bottle Still Life. In the 15 to 17-years-old category the first place winner was Kathryn O’Hara for Imagine, second went to Valerie Colkosz for Past and Present and third went to Connie Bowman’s Western View at Tod’s Point.

Further prizes were handed out to Connie Bowman, 17, Morgan Brog, 10, and Sarah Maitland, five, for their sculptures. The Chairperson Awards were given to Hailey Stern for Trip to the Gallapogos, Cabot Brog for VT Trees and Victoria Moore for Playground. The Best in Show award was given to Helen Bissell for her work Rain.
