Locals share their AT thru-hike experience

2,174 miles, 243 days, and four seasons

Julie Cerny and Angie Eddy Hartofilis will share their journey hiking the Appalachian Trail on Thursday, May 5, from 10-11:30 a.m., at the GLT Conservation Center, 370 Round Hill Road, Greenwich.

Best friends and recent college graduates, Julie Cerny and Angie Eddy Hartofilis set out on March 2, 2005 from Springer Mountain in Georgia on a journey of a life time. The hiking pair endured many “ups and downs.” That is to be expected when burning copious amount of energy walking day (and night) with a heavy pack, sore feet, and sharing a 2.5 foot wide tent.

Angie and Julie will share their AT thru-hike experience with you. A 30 minute slide show followed by tales of gear, mail drops, physical and mental challenges, strategies to keep entertained, trail angels, people encounters, and how their friendship evolved throughout the journey. Laughter always being a prized survival skill. Questions are welcome and they will be available after for anyone seeking more information.

Cost: $10 per person
