Breast Cancer Alliance starts Leadership Circle

When Greenwich residents Paula and Robert G. Burton Sr. recently announced their pledge to donate $1 million to the Breast Cancer Alliance (BCA) it wasn’t the first time they had given generously to the locally-based organization.

So, in gratitude for their nearly two decades worth of support to BCA, and as a way to recognize and honor other top donors and longtime supporters, the Breast Cancer Alliance has established the Leadership Circle.

“We firmly believe that our past success and future potential are grounded in the generosity of private donors who have made a real difference with their significant giving,” said Yonni Wattenmaker, Executive Director.

The Leadership Circle is specifically designed to honor those who have given in excess of $200,000 to the Breast Cancer Alliance, with Gold, Platinum and Diamond levels of recognition, the latter of which includes Michael and Joanne Masin and the Burtons. Other members of the Leadership Circle currently include Christopher and Courtney Combe, Nat and Lucy Day, John and Lile Gibbons, a retiring state representative from Greenwich, Robert and Pamela Goergen, Charles and Ilda Lee, Stephen and Susan Mandel, The Mitchell family, owners of Richards on Greenwich Avenue, Dan and Gloria O’Connell and Peggy Van Munching.

At the Early Patron Thank You Party on Nov. 27, Debbie Black, BCA president, formally announced these circles and thanked the co-chairs of this year’s annual benefit, along with its patrons, for helping the BCA gross more than $1.3 million through that event.

The mission of the Breast Cancer Alliance is to improve survival rates and quality of life for those impacted by breast cancer through better prevention, early detection, treatment and cure. To promote these goals, the BCA uses the funds its raises to invest in innovative research, breast surgery fellowships, regional education, dignified support and screening for the uninsured and underserved.
