Wine Wise: Shop adds flair with new ownership

It’s time to get wise — Wine Wise. The wine shop at 122 East Putnam Avenue has reopened under new management and has several complimentary wine tastings scheduled for the holiday season.

The new owners of Wine Wise, Larry Rutkowski and Susan McCabe, have renovated the space with a new wine selection and the addition of a vintage jewelry boutique called Vintage and Vines which is right next door to the shop. Wine Wise carries wines from the world over, in all price ranges. There is a temperature and humidity controlled wine vault in the rear of the store containing fine wines for enthusiasts who plan to cellar their wines. There are also attractive, newly built racks in the central floor area displaying medium priced and value wines for those looking to enjoy their wines sooner. The store also carries spirits and craft beers.

Marta Marchetti-Kendl directs the store’s operations and has had several years of wine retail experience at stores with sizable vaults and received her DWS at New York’s renowned International Wine Center. She plans to help patrons broaden their appreciation of wine and is designing the store to have an “elegant yet friendly” atmosphere with great service and a knowledgeable staff.

The following complimentary tastings have been scheduled for the holiday season: Friday, Dec. 14 features the shop’s favorite champagnes; Saturday, Dec. 15 features port wine, chocolate, dried fruit and nut and classic cheese pairing; Saturday, Dec. 22 features “big” holiday reds and Saturday, Dec. 29 features sparkling beverages just in time for New Year celebrations.
