Greenwich Academy swim team wins close battle with Kent, 93-90

On Saturday afternoon, the Greenwich Academy varsity swim team began its regular season with a 93-90 victory over the Kent School.

While the Gators had won an earlier exhibition meet against Chase Collegiate, the win against Kent was the Gator’s first official meet.

Greenwich Academy started off the meet strong, winning the 200-yard medley relay and never gave up the lead from there. GA demonstrated its depth, with strong performances from returning stars as well as impressive newcomers.

From the veterans, juniors Kitty Arenz and Hannah Goodrick each won two individual events. Arenz came out on top in the 500-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke, while Goodrick won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard freestyle.

Rounding out GA’s top performances was eighth-grader Olivia Hallisey, who placed first in the 200-yard freestyle as well as the 100-yard butterfly. The meet against Kent School also featured Greenwich Academy’s first ever diver, sophomore Lizzie Fitzpatrick, who won the diving event.

The Gators look to improve to 2-0 at their next meet, when they host School of the Holy Child on Dec.19 at 3:30 p.m. at the Greenwich YMCA.
