Miss Greenwich 2016 Pippa Leigh crowned, promotes Paws for Friendship

Miss Greenwich 2016, Pippa Leigh, was crowned Saturday, March 19 at the St. Francis Hospital Gengras Auditorium as a local titleholder in the Miss America Organization.

Leigh won the title of Miss Hometown, where the winner gets to choose the town she represents. When asked what Hometown title she would like, she announced to the crowd, “Greenwich!”

18-year old Pippa, a dean’s list student at Villanova University, will always call Greenwich her home.  She attended Riverside Elementary, Eastern Middle School, and Convent of the Sacred Heart Greenwich.  She is a member of the Greenwich Pen Women, competed numerous years in the Greenwich Town Competition as an elite figure skater at the Dorothy Hamill Rink.  Growing up she has had her artwork displayed at the school board on Greenwich Ave., played in the OGRCC town soccer, marched in parades, helped at local food banks, such as Neighbor to Neighbor, and attended Allegra Dance Greenwich.

Leigh’s title qualifies her to compete for Miss Connecticut 2016 of the Miss America Organization in June at Mohegan Sun. She keeps up a busy schedule going above and beyond the rigorous academics she excels in as a political science major who is also planning to double minor in business and communications as an aspiring news anchor. She is figure skating, singing the National Anthem at sporting events, the newly appointed News Director of Villanova Television, a staff reporter with the Villanova Television, national video contributor with Spoon University and a staff news reporter for the Villanovan Newspaper.

Leigh’s personal platform is Paws for Friendship, therapy dogs. She works not only with her own dog Belle, but with Gizmo Frens and Paws for Friendship, joining Gizmo in bringing awareness  to the benefits of therapy animals throughout our state and the Greenwich community with Veterans, the nursing home residents, hospitals and school age children’s reading programs at branch libraries as well as with high school kids during exams, and anti-bullying awareness groups.

Gizmo, a 3.5 pound mi-ki dog, has more than 143,000 friends or “frens” on Facebook. His mission is “just a dog spreading a little bit of kindness is all.” He is a member of Paws for Friendship, K9 First Responders, CERT Therapy K9, as well  AKC Therapy Dog -Distinguished, and AKC Good Citizen.
