Brunswick hockey opens season with 3-0 win

The Brunswick School ice hockey team opened up its season in impressive fashion yesterday, traveling to Northfield, Mass. and beating Northfield Mount Herman School, 3-0.

Leading the way for the Bruins were the dynamic duo of Stephan Seeger and senior goalie Gryphon Richardson. Seeger netted a natural hat trick, while Richardson finished with 39 saves and pitched a shutout.

After a scoreless first period, Seeger erupted for three goals, all on special teams. At the 2:12 mark of the second period, Seeger found the back of the net short-handed.

Roughly two minutes later, Seeger was at it again, this time on the power play. Foster and Nick Jermain assisted on the power play goal.

With 14:48 gone by in the period, Brunswick was back on the power play and again Seeger eluded the Northfield goalie for the 3-0 lead. Liam Ferguson and Andre Masse assisted on the play.

While Richardson and Seeger stole the show, Brunswick’s defense from Masse and Nick Viceconte was stellar.

With the victory, Brunswick improved to 1-0 on the season and will be back in action Wednesday when they play in their home opener against Kent at 3 p.m.
