Snow expected to make messy morning drive

snow-shovelingGreenwich students are getting a snow day Friday, Feb. 5, as snow falls and the area remains under a winter weather advisory.

Greenwich Public Schools are all closed. Stanwich School is closed. 

The Department of Motor Vehicles has canceled all road tests.

Colleges around the area are announcing changes to today’s schedule.

Southwestern Connecticut is under a winter weather advisory until noon, with moderate snow and reduced visibilities among the hazards the National Weather Service said can be expected.

Rain mixed with snow overnight, and forecast to become all snow by daybreak and lasting into early afternoon. Accumulations of 4 to 6 inches are expected.

Wins of 10 to 20 miles per hour are expected, with gusts of up to 30 miles per hour.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. The National Weather Service advised motorists to be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities, particularly during morning rush hour and around school opening times.
