William Raveis holds online food drive to source fresh produce

Supports Neighbor to Neighbor in Greenwich

Winter food drives are rare — weather conditions make them hard to organize and difficult to donate to. Many groups sponsor holiday food drives and will wait awhile before organizing their next one. That creates a major challenge for hunger organizations who worry about not having enough food to meet the needs they are serving. In fact, many reduce the amount of food they distribute due to fewer donations.

The other challenge is sourcing fresh produce. Hunger organizations have increasingly recognized the importance of supplying healthier food to those they support — including fresh fruits and vegetables. In the summer and early fall, many rely upon local farms to help them. Once the growing season ends, fresh produce donations reduce to a trickle.

William Raveis Real Estate in Greenwich is tackling both problems with a winter food drive designed to raise 750 pounds of fresh fruit by using Amp Your Good’s Crowd-Feeding system. Margriet McGowan an agent with William Raveis in Greenwich came up with the idea to spearhead this campaign. Margriet has long ties with Neighbor to Neighbor and organized the Holiday Food Drive and wanted to do more. “It was important to develop a coordinated effort to better serve Neighbor to Neighbor’s specific need,” said McGowan. It was an idea and thanks to Pat and his platform at Amp Your Good we were able to get this launched in record time.”
