Greenwich Catholic School to celebrate National Catholic Schools Week

Greenwich Catholic School will take part in National Catholic Schools Week beginning Jan. 31.

A tradition since 1974, Catholic Schools Week is observed by Catholic schools, parishes and communities nationwide. The week’s theme — “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service” — highlights schools’ focus on faith development, academic excellence and dedication to community service.

“As the only school in Greenwich that is a part of the Diocese of Bridgeport Catholic School System, we look forward to this initiative every year,” said Patrice Kopas, principal. “Catholic Schools Week is an opportunity for us to celebrate our school’s commitment to our faith and excellence in academics. We have a special place in the greater Greenwich community and are proud showcase all that we offer our students and their families.”

On Monday, Feb. 1, students will launch service projects that include a collection drive for infant needs for Birthright of Greater Stamford. Students will also take part in Valentines for Veterans and retired clergy.

Kopas explained, “We appreciate the support we receive from the community, and we encourage our students to give back through service projects all year. It’s part of our effort to provide a well-rounded education and also what helps define us as a Catholic school.”

Prospective families and community residents are welcome to attend an Open House on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 9 a.m. to learn about the school’s educational programs and extracurricular activities. Parent ambassadors will conduct tours, and staff will be on hand to accept applications for the 2016-2017 academic year.

The week will conclude with a prayer service and pep-rally. Additional activities planned include school liturgies, grade-level service projects, a teacher appreciation luncheon.
