Greenwich area teams taking to the field in state, New England tournaments

A bunch of fall varsity athletic teams from the town of Greenwich will be back in action today, competing in both state and New England tournaments.

The Greenwich High School boys soccer team will resume play in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference class LL tournament today at 2. After heavy rains forced a postponement in yesterday’s game at No. 2 seeded Amity Regional High School, the Cards will travel there today. The winner of the game will advance to the class LL semifinals and battle No. 3 seed Fairfield Prep.

Also competing in a class LL championship will be the Greenwich High girls swim team. The Lady Cardinals will travel up to Wesleyan University and will look to once again capture the CIAC class LL crown. The meet gets underway at 7.

Two Greenwich Academy teams will also be in action later on today. The No. 2 seeded field hockey team, just coming off its 28th consecutive FAA championship, will take to Tammaro Field at 2:30 p.m. and compete in the New England Prep School Athletic Conference tournament opening round against No. 7 seed Deerfield Academy.

The GA volleyball team, coming off another stellar season and an Fairchester Athletic Association championship, will also take part in the New England tournament. The Gators will hit the road and take on Cushing Academy at 3.

Also competing in the New England Prep School Athletic Conference postseason will be the Convent of the Sacred Heart volleyball team. Making its third-consecutive appearance in the postseason tourney, the Tigers will board the bus and travel to Suffield Academy and compete against No. 4 seeded Dana Hall of Wellesley at 5 p.m.
