Retired Men’s Association of Greenwich, Inc. (RMA) hosts Elizabeth Burleson, Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church, Lafayette Place, Greenwich. Burleson will talk about “Behind the Scenes at the UN Climate Conference in Paris.”

Elizabeth Burleson participated in drafting the terms of the agreement and will report on the fascinating story of the behind-the-scenes negotiations and difficult compromises that were hammered out. This arduous process, with all its frustrations and drama, led to a remarkable result: the pact was unanimously adopted by all 196 participating countries.

Burleson writes reports for the UN and advises on treaty making for the UN Office of Legal Affairs. She participated in the drafting process for the earlier United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). She is an expert contributor to the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as well as to other national and international organizations.

Burleson holds an LL.M. from the London School of Economics in International Law and has taught courses and speaks frequently on many aspects of international law dealing with the environment and human rights. She has won numerous awards and is the author of many publications.

RMA meetings are free and open to the public, both men and women; no reservations are required. Please plan to arrive around 10:40 a.m. for our social break (coffee and cake), followed by our speaker at 11 a.m. Meetings are held at the First Presbyterian Church in Greenwich, with parking on-street or at public lot two houses north of the church on Lafayette Place.
