Greenwich Decorative Arts Society presents The Villas of Andrea Palladio

The Greenwich Decorative Arts Society (formerly The Greenwich Antiques Society) presentsThe Villas of Andrea Palladio,” a lecture by Witold Rybczynski, Martin and Margy Meyerson Professor Emeritus of Urbanism, University of Pennsylvania on Monday, Feb. 1, at 1:15 p.m., at The Bruce Museum, Greenwich. Refreshments follow.

With his simple, gracious, perfectly proportioned villas, Andrea Palladio elevated the architecture of the private house into an art form during the late sixteenth century. In his illustrated talk, Witold Rybczynski takes us on a tour of ten of the master’s villas in the Veneto. Learn how Palladio reacted to different sites and clients and why he continues to fascinate us today.

Witold Rybczynski is the author of The Perfect House: A Journey with the Renaissance Master Andrea Palladio, and the prize-winning A Clearing in the Distance: Frederick Law Olmsted and America in the Nineteenth Century. He is the winner of the 2014 National Design Award for Design Mind.
