Beacon School hosts admissions open house Nov. 8

The Beacon School, an accredited, coed, independent school for intellectually curious learners in grades 3-12, will be hosting an Admissions Open House event on Sunday, Nov. 8, from 1-3, at 111 West North Street in Stamford.

The 2015-2016 school year marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Beacon School as it makes its new home on the Hubbard Mansion campus of Stamford’s historic Hubbard Heights neighborhood. Inspired by this striking academic setting, students in Beacon’s close-knit community are making best use of their new space to learn, grow, and “find their own light”.

At Beacon, each student is encouraged to be themselves, celebrate strengths, experience challenge, and pursue passions with the support of knowledgeable teachers and an intimate cohort. Beacon’s 3:1 student-teacher ratio and individualized approach create a “no back of the classroom” atmosphere in which each student is an engaged partner in learning. The hallmarks of a Beacon student are a desire for intellectual inquiry and academic achievement, a strong sense of compassion, and the drive to direct one’s own learning. This unique approach to education has defined the idea of “perfect fit” for many students who come to Beacon. In the words of one Beacon fourth grader, “My parents could have chosen another school for me, but when they dropped me off in the morning, I would have walked to Beacon.”

The Hubbard Mansion campus formerly housed Mother of God Academy, which opened in 1944. Many elements original to the 19th century structure were preserved and updated in recent extensive renovations. The result is an architectural triumph featuring bright classrooms, a library, a large gymnasium, a performance space, expansive meeting rooms, and beautiful grounds. The campus also includes dormitory housing and a separate building for the Lower School. As a result of this newly acquired space, Beacon will have the opportunity to expand its programs, especially in the area of performing arts.

Beacon currently has 35 students and is planning to expand to 50 students for the 2016-2017 school year. The Admissions Open House will include a tour of the main building, the Lower School Annex, and the grounds, as well as an information session for prospective parents interested in learning more about Beacon.
