LETTER: Re-elect Barbara O’Neill for Board of Education

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor:

I write in support of Barbara O’Neill for Board of Education.

I’ve known Barbara for more than 20 years, and worked with her, during her years as a school administrator and teacher, when I was on the Board of Education. Barbara has consistently been dedicated to the goal of achieving excellence for Greenwich students in all our schools. Our community’s trust and regard for her was demonstrated when Barbara was first elected to the Board of Education last term — with the highest vote count of any Greenwich BOE candidate in the last 26 years.

A former Program Administrator and Distinguished Teacher in our school system, Barbara brings the unique perspective of her administrative and classroom experience to her board role. While superintendents, central office administrators and boards have turned over, Barbara has continued to develop a long-term perspective about our community’s needs and the kinds of initiatives which have produced the best results for our students. Barbara understands first hand our district’s strengths and challenges in the daily reality of teaching and learning.

During her first term on the Board of Education, Barbara was elected Chairman, and under her leadership, the Greenwich Board of Education has earned state-wide recognition for board effectiveness from the Connecticut Association of School Boards.

I hope you will join me in voting to re-elect Barbara O’Neill for Board of Education on Tuesday, November 3.
