LETTER: Gaetane shows initiative, leadership and commitment

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor:

I’m writing this letter to tell the taxpayers, voters and all community members of Greenwich about Dr. Gaetane Francis, who is running for a position on the Greenwich Board of Education. Gaetane is one of the most impressive people I have ever known, and I have the privilege of calling her my friend and neighbor. In addition to her nine years of volunteering at her neighborhood schools, as well as on the district level as the co-chair of the Advanced Learning Program (ALP), she can be counted on for so many other things!

For example, Gaetane shows initiative, leadership and commitment to her neighbors every year (at least the 12 years that I have lived on her street), as she takes on the self-imposed role of banker and general contractor of the neighborhood by implementing a joint snow removal project. Year after year, Gaetane collects money from every household in the neighborhood prior to the snow falling season and arranges for us all to get our driveways plowed at a discounted price. She, more often than not, has to collect additional money from each household at the end of the snow falling season when there is a deficit due to extra snowfalls, as has been the case these past few years. And, of course, she is the contact person we call to complain to when the snow removal isn’t done perfectly and in a timely fashion. As unappreciated as she often is, she always acts quickly to remediate the issue at hand. Now I ask you, what type of person in this day and age takes the time to do this unnecessary, additional and bothersome task? Well, I will tell you what type. A thoughtful, efficient, willing, smart and fiscally prudent person, that’s who! And the Greenwich Public School district will not only reap the benefits of Gaetane’s extraordinary personal attributes, but also of her achievements and experiences if she is elected to the BOE. Whether Gaetane is wearing her neighbor hat, her family hat, her physician hat or her volunteer hat, one can be sure she is wearing it with integrity, intelligence, insight, knowledge and, most of all, with care.

As I like to say about Gaetane, not only has she put her education, skills and dedication into delivering hundreds of babies into this world and community over the last 20 years, she has also put those same attributes in seeing that many of these same children, as well as many others, get the best possible education. Gaetane will assuredly bring an open ear, thoughtful insights and a let’s get it done and move forward attitude. She is approachable, creative and a critical thinker who will serve the students, teachers, families, tax payers and administrators effectively and responsibly. Gaetane truly enjoys her work with education systems and with the people of this town.

Now, I know I used an abundance of adjectives in describing my friend, but I can tell you that it would be a shame and a loss if Gaetane were not elected to our BOE. Don’t underappreciate her beneficial offer to serve our community. So, please join me in voting for Dr. Gaetane Francis on November 3rd.
