North Mianus Elementary School students ‘Ran-Across-America’

A yearly activity run by Silke Oellrich, North Mianus School PTA VP Health and Wellness, Run-Across-America took place during the week of Oct. 5-9 with the 9th postponed to Oct. 16 due to rain.

At recess, encouraged by the parents and teachers, children voluntarily exercised by running and waking laps; with a goal of covering up to a mile each day. We’re headed to San Francisco! The distance run by all of the students was tallied and drawn on the map in the Cafeteria as the kids traversed the U.S.

Showing their progress from NMS as they made their way across the country. Grades 1-5, Principals, teachers, staff and parents joined the run.

The program was designed by a Physical Education teacher in CT to:

• Create an awareness of the benefits of living a physical active lifestyle.

• Increase the number of students passing the cardiovascular endurance (1-mile run) standard on the Connecticut State Physical Fitness Assessment.
