Schubert Club secures world-renowned pianist for concert

He has been called “classical, but not conventional” by People Magazine, and the exceptional pianist, who has played concerts all over the world, will be at Greenwich Library’s Cole Auditorium on Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. for a one-evening performance.

Awadagin Pratt, pianist extraordinaire, is acclaimed among his generation of concert artists for his musical insight and intensely involving performances in recital and with symphony orchestras. At the age of 16 he entered the University of Illinois where he studied piano, violin, and conducting. He subsequently enrolled at the Peabody Institute, where he became the first student in the school’s history to receive diplomas in three performance areas — piano, violin and conducting. Pratt recently received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Johns Hopkins. He has performed at the White House for Presidents Clinton and Obama. Internationally, Pratt has toured Japan four times and performed in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Israel, Colombia and South Africa and is devoted to music education. He currently serves as Professor of Piano and Artist-in-Residence as well as Chair of Piano, University of Cincinnati.

Appealing to music students as well as all music lovers of every age, Pratt’s program will include demanding works by Johannes Brahms, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Franz Liszt.

According to Schubert Club President Wendie Grossman, “Securing Mr. Pratt is a bit of a coup for our Club,” which annually presents the Wendy Tisch Memorial Concerts, piano recitals by world famous artists, endowed by Richard Tisch to honor his late wife. “Awagadin Pratt is an exceptional musician and educator,” she states.

The Schubert Club of Fairfield County provides opportunities for performance by professional and amateur musicians, and sponsors the Young Musicians Festival, professional development lectures, as well as the Wendy Tisch Memorial Concert Series. New members are welcome.
