Hispanic Advisory Council of Greater Stamford hosts annual Community Health Fair

Hispanic Advisory Council of Greater Stamford annual Community Health Fair is scheduled for Oct. 3, at 9 a.m., at DOMUS Center, 83 Lockwood Avenue, Stamford. The Hispanic Advisory Council of Greater Stamford brings together representatives of non-profit organizations as well as businesses and individuals providing services to the community. The purposes of this network is to share information about resources available to the Community, announce initiatives, create relationships, find collaborators and seek cooperation and coordination on various initiatives and programs. The council, established in 1996, brings free healthcare services to more than 1500 participants annually.

The health fair provides expensive testing not regularly accessible to the community free of charge. Local doctors, nurses and health practitioners come together to administer a multitude of important preventative tests like: blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, pulmonary function test, facial skin test, body fat analysis, mobile mammography, and many more.

The event is annually sponsored by local organizations and corporations passionate about serving and educating the community. Fun family friendly activities are also held to educate parents in caring for their children’s health, diet and dental hygiene. Local restaurants happily contribute by catering the event free of charge to the expected 1500 attendees.

2015 will be the 22nd annual all volunteer health fair to be held by HACGS. Organizers are once again looking for volunteers to help distribute flyers in the community to advertise the date and time of the event. Help is also needed the day of the health fair with registrations as well as interpreting for non-English speakers of Spanish, Haitian, Creole, French, Gujrati and Hindi are especially needed. HACGS aspires to help those who serve the community more effectively. All are invited to share ideas, services and helpful information.
