Unmask! Teen Summer Reading program at Greenwich Library

Teens entering grades 6-12 are invited to unmask during this year’s summer reading program. What’s underneath the mask you wear at home and at school, and even with your friends? What are your talents and your fandoms? Unmask the real you at the special events listed below.

Manga Drawing Workshop with Author Misako Rocks, Saturday, June 27 at 1 p.m.

Unmask your manga! This exciting manga drawing workshop is for ages 9-18 and will be led by Misako Rocks! Meet this talented graphic novel author who will talk about her books and lead a hands-on drawing workshop.

Comic Book Swap Day, Saturday, July 11 from 1-3 p.m., Meeting Room

Unmask your comic book fandom! Teens from grades 6-12 can bring in their favorite comics to swap with each other (no charge) and network with fellow fans. A limited number of free comics will be given out. Refreshments and comics-related videos will be served/shown.

Make Your Own Comic Book Workshop, Saturday, July 18 from 1-3 p.m., Meeting Room.

Unmask your creativity! Teens entering grades 6-12 come to the Library to create their own mini comic books and share them with each other. Former Marvel Comics editor & artist (and current SUNY professor) Carl Potts will provide tips and speak about the art of creating comics and graphic novels.

Movie: Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Saturday, July 25 from 1-3 p.m., Meeting Room.

Unmask your secret super hero! Steve Rogers, AKA Captain America, must stop a wide ranging government conspiracy but only if the winter soldier doesn’t stop him first.

Teen Summer Reading Finale and Grand Prize Drawing, August 8 from 1-3:30 p.m., Meeting Room. Celebrate the finale of Summer Reading 2015 with a movie screening (title TBD by popular vote). Grand prize is a Kindle Fire, second prize a $50 GamePro gift certificate and third prize is a $25 gift certificate from Diane’s books.

Teen programming, resources and activities are a core part of Greenwich Library’s offerings year-round.

Regular Teen Programming this Summer

· Chess moves to Monday Nights in July and August. Join National Master Rich Jackson at 7 p.m. on July 13 and August 10 for instruction, supervised play and a game or two. All ages and skill levels welcome.

· The Student Leadership Council will meet on Thursday July 9 and 23 at 7 p.m. (No meeting in August). Students from grades 8-12 get together at Teen Central on the second floor to brainstorm about programs relevant to their peer group in exchange for community service hours.

· Middle School Book Club will meet at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 30 in the Meeting Room. In keeping with the summer reading hero theme, this month’s book is Super Human by Michael Carroll.

· Of interest to Teens: Introduction to Your GoPro, Monday, July 13th at 2 p.m. in the Training Center. Instructors will help you set up your camera, demonstrate basic editing and provide some GoPro tips and tricks.
