Greenwich High athletes ready for CIAC state tourney

The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference just announced its tournament pairings for the fall athletic season.

The Greenwich High boys soccer team will start play in the class LL tournament tomorrow as the No. 7 seed and will host fellow FCIAC opponent Trumbull High School at 2. The winner of that game will play the winner of No. 10 seed Bristol Central vs. No. 23 seed Pomperaug on Saturday.

Fresh off its third-consecutive FCIAC championship, the GHS girls soccer team will enter the class LL tournament as the No. 11 seed and will host No. 22 Simsbury Friday afternoon at 2. The winner will play the winner of the No. 6 Newtown vs. No. 17 Staples game on Monday at 2.

Coming off its stunning 2-1 overtime victory over Wilton in the FCIAC semifinals last night, the Big Red field hockey team enters the class L tournament as the No. 9 seed and will travel to No. 8 seed Conard High School Friday at 2. The winner of that game gets the challenge of possibly facing Darien High School in the second round.

The Greenwich High School girls volleyball team took the No. 9 seed in the class LL tournament and picked up a first-round bye. The will resume play Saturday afternoon when they travel up to South Windsor for a game that gets underway at 7 p.m.

Lastly, the Greenwich High girls swimming and diving team are gearing up for their state tournament run. On Saturday, the swim team will travel to East Hartford for competition in the class LL qualifying meet. The GHS diving team will participate in the class LL diving trails and championships Monday at Middletown High School. The swimmers will compete in the class LL championship meet on Wednesday when they travel up to Wesleyan University at 7.
