Educational event to raise awareness of Elder Abuse

The Stamford Senior Center is hosting a panel presentation to raise awareness of elder abuse & neglect on Thursday, June 18, from 10-11 a.m. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is June 15.

The event will help older adults learn how they can protect themselves from the various forms of elder abuse, including financial exploitation, and also learn about the resources available to them if they or someone they know is a victim of abuse or neglect.

The panel of experts includes:

Sgt. Sean Scanlan and Investigator Paul DeRiu of the Stamford Police Department

Laura Snow of the Center for Elder Abuse Prevention

Sandra Gottlin, Elder Law Attorney

Tania Khammouch, CT Dept. of Social Services, Protective Services for the Elderly

About World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day serves as a call-to-action for individuals, organizations, and communities to raise awareness about abuse, neglect, and exploitation of elders. The International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization at the United Nations launched the first World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15, 2006 in an effort to unite communities around the world in raising awareness about elder abuse.
