The Stamford location of AFC/Doctors Express, a national leader in urgent care walk-in clinics, celebrates its first anniversary in business this month. The center began serving patients at its 3000 Summer Street office in mid-June 2014.

A time-saving, cost-effective alternative to the ER, AFC/Doctors Express Stamford offers fast, convenient and affordable care for non-life threatening medical emergencies as well as routine health needs. On-site physicians and other qualified staff provide efficient emergency care for sprains, fractures and other injuries, minor traumas, infections or illnesses with no appointment necessary. Other in-house services include x-rays, lab tests, pre-employment and CT Department of Transportation (DOT) physicals, immigration exams, drug screening, sports and school physicals, vaccinations and prescriptions for non-chronic conditions, eliminating the need to visit multiple facilities.

As principal investor and owner Greenwich resident Brad Radulovacki and his 15 employees look back on the past year, they can point to several notable accomplishments:

Significant cost savings and convenience for patients

Unlike many hospital walk-in clinics, AFC/Doctors Express does not charge a hefty facility fee for each visit. Since the urgent care center recorded over 7,000 patient visits in its first year, mainly Stamford residents, Mr. Radulovacki calculates that patients, businesses and insurers saved over $1 million on facility fees alone.

With a full range of medical services, AFC/Doctors Express is at the highest end of the walk-in patient care model. The center accepts most insurance plans and has affordable self-payment options. On-site digital x-rays and a blood lab, shorter waiting times and walk-in access save customers time and money. The center is open seven days a week, including weekday evenings until 8 p.m.

The urgent care center can be a valuable medical resource for people who don’t have a primary care physician. They may be new to the area, generally healthy and not in immediate need of a PCP. If they do require medical attention, these patients seek convenience and quality at a lower cost.

Comprehensive employment services for compliance and safety

In addition to DOT physicals for corporations, government groups and private schools, AFC/Doctors Express has conducted pre-employment physicals, workers’ compensation exams, drug screening and breath alcohol testing for new hires and current employees. These vital services help organizations maintain compliance with state and business requirements as well as the safety of employees and the general public.

Partnering with other health care providers and the community for better service

Although AFC/Doctors Express offers a full range of medical services, they have also assisted patients with finding specialists who are conveniently located and in-network with their insurer. Staff can refer customers to physicians specializing in cardiology, urology, orthopedics, diabetes care, pain management, podiatry, medication regulation, physical therapy and other practice areas. AFC/Doctors Express’ relationships with area Departments of Social Services, schools and community health clinics can expedite getting patients the care they need.

“We’ve been delighted with the local response to AFC/Doctors Express Urgent Care in our first year,” said Radulovacki. “Our medical team works hard to deliver exceptional patient care and a great customer experience. We are dedicated to providing affordable, top-quality services and becoming a trusted health resource in the greater Stamford area.”

Radulovacki plans to open additional AFC/Doctors Express centers in Stamford and the surrounding area within the next 12 months.
