Boys & Girls Club auditions set for new show

The Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich’s Theatre Program has announced auditions for its mainstage musical, The Sound of Music (G2K Version)

The Sound of Music is based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp, the story of the Trapp Family Singers. The show includes Edelweiss, My Favorite Things, Climb Ev’ry Mountain, Do-Re-Mi and, of course, the title song, The Sound of Music. The final musical was written by Rodgers and Hammerstein and the original Broadway production of The Sound of Music starred Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel when it opened on Nov. 16, 1959. The beloved 1965 film musical starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer won five Academy Awards.

Auditions will be held Thursday, Dec. 11, and Friday, Dec. 12, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich on 4 Horseneck Lane. Christina Kampler will direct the musical with Zachary Kampler as musical director, Jennifer Dunn as choreographer (with Don Palmer, BGCG program director; Rocco Natale, artistic director emeritus).

Performances will occur April 24 and 25, 2015. Young people ages six to 18 are encouraged to audition and should prepare an a capella song and will be required to read from a script. Participants must become a member at the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich before Dec. 11.
