Annual Turkey Trot registration under way

Thanksgiving is looming on the horizon and that means it’s time for the Greenwich Alliance for Education’s Turkey Trot through Bruce Park.

All runners and walkers are invited to participate in the Greenwich Alliance for Education’s second annual Turkey Trot, to be held in Bruce Park on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 9:15 a.m. At this post-Thanksgiving family activity, registrants will be able to choose from either a 5K race or a non-competitive 1 mile run/walk. Both will begin and end at the Greenwich Teen Center at 100 Arch Street.

The 1 mile fun run/walk will start at 9:15 a.m. and the 5K will start at 9:30 a.m. All proceeds from the Turkey Trot will directly benefit the Greenwich Alliance for Education’s programs that aim to foster educational success for Greenwich Public School students.

Those interested can register online from the Greenwich Alliance’s website, Greenwichalliance.org. The first 100 online registrants will receive a $5 gift card to Garden Catering. The pre-registration cost is $20 per adult and $10 per child age 14 and under. Race-day registration will take place inside the Greenwich Teen Center from 8 to 9 a.m. The cost will be $25 per adult and $10 per child 14 and under. T-shirts and goody bags with offers from local merchants will be given to runners who pre-register by Nov. 18 and to all other registrants while supplies last.

Pre-registered runners can pick up bibs, T-shirts, and goody bags on Friday, Nov. 23 at the Greenwich Teen Center from 2 to 5 p.m. The Greenwich Teen Center is located at 100 Arch Street. Awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female 5K winners and the top three male and female finishers in 10 age categories, from 10-and-under to 70-plus. All 16-and-under 1-mile finishers will receive medals. Plentiful post-race refreshments, including water and Gatorade provided by Pepsico, will be served.

In addition, the Alliance’s Storymobile will be available for children to explore with their parents’ supervision. And, new this year, there will be a competition among the 14 public schools in Greenwich to enter the greatest number of runners. The winning school will receive a prize for its physical education department.

The Alliance is excited to build on the success of last year’s Turkey Trot and hopes to add more sponsors and donations for runner amenities this year. Interested local businesses are encouraged to contact Julie Faryniarz at 203-340-2323 or [email protected]
