Greenwich Library presents Beyond Bullying Dec. 9

This thought-provoking program on bullying, led by expert Dr. Jonathan Fast, will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m., in the Library Meeting Room. The program is based on his new book, Beyond Bullying: Breaking the Cycle of Shame, Bullying, and Violence.

Dr. Fast deftly weaves together research from the fields of psychology, sociology, economics, and history to create a single overarching theory of shame. The book introduces the concept of “weaponized shame,” a toxic and intentional attack on another person, and explains the role played by shame for both the bully and the victim.

Beyond mere theory, Beyond Bullying provides concrete suggestions for healthy ways of managing shame, including techniques for diffusing potentially harmful situations.

Jonathan Fast, MSW, PhD, is Associate Professor, Wurzweiler School of Social Work, Yeshiva University. He has worked as a clinical social worker and consultant to school districts and government agencies. In a previous life, Dr. Fast was a successful novelist and screenwriter for Disney Feature Animation and other production companies. Visit www.beyond-bullying.com.
